Distinctive Art is owned and operated by the Sutaria family in Houston, Texas.
Distinctive Art has been in the custom picture framing business for more than nine years.
When we started our business back in 1988, it was more of a hobby than a full-fledged business.
Our clientele consisted of our family and friends. We worked out of our home until business
started booming and then moved into our retail location in October 1993.
Over the years our clientele became more diversified, so we diversified our business and products
to meet their needs. We have now added a gift shop in our store. We, by way of Distinctive Art,
specialize in custom picture framing of all types of art.
Our gift items include pieces from all over the world. Examples include ready-made
frames, photo frames, sculptures, wood carvings, and porcelain gifts. Some of the places we
represent are India, Egypt, Persia, and Turkey. Distinctive Art carries a full line of everyday
greeting cards, handmade cards, gift bags, and seals. In addition, we also carry personalized
Thanksgiving, Diwali, and Christmas cards, Eastern and Western social invitations, and Eastern
and Western wedding cards. Distinctive Art is an authorized Marg Publications and Mapin
Publications dealer.
Our personnel include: Mrudula Sutaria, Owner and Designer, and Suresh Sutaria, Engineer and
Certified Picture Framer.
In addition to our personnel, Distinctive Art is represented in the
following organizations.

The first Professional Membership is the
Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA).
In this particular organization, Suresh was the President of Texas Gulf Coast Chapter (TGC) for
the 1995-1996 year.

The second Professional Membership is the
South Asian Chamber of Commerce in Houston.
- The third Professional Membership is the Asian American Heritage Association.
Suresh, Mrudula, and Namita have served on various committees.
Distinctive Art has also been recognized in the Art and Frame Trade Magazine, Decor,
for their work in bringing Indian Ethnic Art into the limelight. Distinctive Art was also
awarded the Frame of the Month Award from Decor Magazine. In addition to these, Distinctive
Art has placed in several competitions. Distinctive Art received First Place in 1990's PPFA-TGC
New and Creative Framing Competition. We were then awarded Second Place in 1992's PPFA-TGC New
and Creative Framing Competition.
